Recommendations, Grades and Standardized Test Scores

All students applying for 9th grade must submit two letters of recommendation, most recents grades, and most recent standardized test scores (example: NWEA MAP). The document(s) can be uploaded to your student’s PowerSchool Enrollment application or the item(s) can be emailed to admissionsteam@chicagohopeacademy.org.

  • One recommendation form should be filled out by a teacher.
  • The second recommendation form should be completed by a principal/counselor/pastor/tutor/coach or another teacher.

Academic Evaluation

Hope will administer an Academic Evaluation on various Saturdays throughout the year for incoming students. All applicants are required to take this test or submit High School Placement Test (HSPT) scores in order to be considered for acceptance. If a student has already taken or plans to take the HSPT at another school, he/she can have those scores emailed/mailed to the Admissions Team.

Family Interview

After evaluating the completed application and entrance exam results, the Admissions Director will contact the prospective student about acceptance or schedule a family interview.

  • An interview is not guaranteed for every applicant. In the interview, the Admissions Director is looking for the student’s academic potential, work ethic, and personal desire to attend Hope. The Admissions Director will also want to determine the level of family involvement and support.
  • All admissions decisions are made by email within two weeks of the interview, if not sooner.

Scholarships

Academic

Candidates with a very strong academic record and high test scores can qualify for a scholarship. If a candidate tests high enough on our entrance exam, he/she can qualify for one of two internal scholarships:

Eagle Scholarship

This scholarship is granted to incoming 9th graders who score in the top fifth of their class. Students who score in the 80th percentile or higher receive an additional $2,000 off their final tuition. In order to maintain the Eagle Scholarship, the student must maintain a GPA of at least 3.25.

Hope Scholarship

This scholarship is granted to incoming 9th graders who score above average in their class. Students who score above the 60th percentile receive an additional $1,000 off their final tuition. In order to maintain the Hope Scholarship, the student must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0.

Empower Illinois

is a 501(c)(3) that provides low-income and working-class families the opportunity to explore new, quality K-12 education options through private school scholarships and advocating for innovation in Illinois education.

Link Unlimited Scholars

LINK Unlimited Scholars is a Chicago-based institution that connects African American youth with high potential to educational, cultural and professional resources that help close the opportunity gap. Ultimately furthering their social trajectory and long-term economic stability.

Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund

The Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund provides high school scholarship assistance and educational support to Chicago students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

​DMSF seeks to make a life-altering difference in the lives of its Scholars by providing them with the best opportunity to succeed in high school and college.

Highlight Scholarship

HighSight provides scholarships, tutoring, mentoring, leadership development, and college readiness programs that create new possibilities for Chicago high school students from low-income families. The HighSight experience empowers our scholars to excel in high school and graduate from four-year colleges across the country.

HFS Chicago Scholars

HFS provides high school scholarships and mentoring to economically disadvantaged, at-risk Chicago inner-city student who show academic leadership and promise.

Chicago Lights

In order to receive this scholarship a student must be enrolled in the Chicago Lights tutoring program. This program begins in October and students apply for scholarships starting in March.

High Jump

High Jump Scholars must apply as 6th graders. The deadline is usually in March.

Staver Accident and Injury lawyers

We are happy to announce the sixth annual Staver Law Group Personal Injury Scholarship. Every day we help people who have been hurt in Chicago car accidents or other types of personal injury situations and are struggling to keep up with medical bills and their daily lives. We are dedicated to helping them navigate their situations, and we have designed this scholarship to award a student whose essay shows an understanding and appreciation for the type of work we do. The winner will receive $5,000 toward educational expenses.

The 2024 Test Date will be announced in September 2024

Important Test Information

The test is from 9am to 12pm. Doors open for check-in at 8:15am. Please arrive by 8:45am. Students should bring a snack, water bottle and several #2 pencils. Students do not need to have the application finished before testing. Test results take two weeks.

Test Prep

If you would like to purchase a study guide you can find the HSPT material in the test prep section of most bookstores under the name “Catholic School Test”. (It will also have other test preps in the same book, but as long as it has the HSPT on the cover, it will have two practice tests and study material.)
