Football team makes playoffs

Chicago Hope Academy Eagles returns to IHSA playoffs

CHICAGO, IL, OCTOBER 22, 2018 – After posting a 7-2 regular season record, the Chicago Hope Academy Eagles are preparing to make a run through the IHSA playoffs.

Chicago Hope Academy continues to defy the odds. After playing one of the most difficult schedules of any team in the 2A playoffs, the Hope Eagles won the 2018 Chicago Catholic League Red Division with a 4-0 division record. This is the second straight season being crowned the Chicago Catholic League Champions, posting a combined 7-0 record over the past two seasons.

“We feel like we have great experience heading into the playoffs. Most of our kids have started on Varsity for 3-4 years,” said Matt Kelly, Head Football Coach of Chicago Hope Academy.

The football program has qualified for the State playoffs every year since 2013, but has fallen short of advancing past the second round.

“The team is hungry to do what no team in school history has done, and that is to play deep into November,” he said. “We understand the 2A bracket is loaded this year, and honestly, that excites us.”

The first playoff round for Chicago Hope Academy is set for Saturday, October 27 at 4pm. The Hope Eagles will take on the Knoxville Blue Bullets at Altgeld Park located at 515 S Washtenaw Avenue. The game time was adjusted by the IHSA in order to accommodate Hope students who are taking the ACT. The Hope Eagles will have to win three rounds before advancing to the State championship.

Chicago Hope Academy will bring their values of teamwork, discipline, sacrifice, sportsmanship and perseverance to the field as they advance. The Hope Eagle’s philosophy is simple, Kelly said: “In order to be the best, you have to beat the best.”

Chicago Hope was founded 14 years ago by Bob and Tina Muzikowski as a nondenominational college and life preparatory high school to be an example of Christian education and diversity. Chicago Hope Academy is dedicated to nurturing and challenging the whole person – body, mind, and spirit – to the glory of God.
