Hope Academy maintained its winning ways against larger schools with a 57-53 upset win over No. 24 Marshall at Attack Athletics on Wednesday.

Senior forward Colin Blaydes scored 11 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Eagles (14-2). Guard Tyrone Smith (12 points) and center Torrance Johnson (11 points) also contributed offensively.

Alex Houston’s clutch basket in the paint extended the Eagles’ lead to 53-50 with 1:50 left in the game. Hope Academy also made several free throws in the closing minutes to secure the nonconference victory.

The Commandos led 29-25 halftime before the Eagles rallied by limiting their mistakes in the second half.

“We committed ten turnovers in the first half but only four (turnovers) the rest of the way,” Hope Academy coach Mike Edwards said. “I felt the guys played really well especially considering we just lost a kid (Jalen James) who is transferring to another school. We have 14 wins and they all came against bigger schools except two games – one against a 1A team and another against a 2A team.”
